Shaykh Mohammad Akram Nadwi
Journey to Andalus. By Mohammad Akram Nadwi. Translation by Abu Zayd.
136 pages.
What Attracts my attention in the journey of Shaykh Akram is that he follows the pattern of the hadith experts in weaving the accounts of their own journey. whenever they would encounter people of hadith or other notable scholars - they would narrate hadith, accounts and other benefits after sharing the biographies of those whom they met. This is also the practice of Dr. Akram in his travelogues to Damascus and Cairo, and now, in his journey to Andalus. It is from his knowledge, acumen and hadith insight that he concluded the work with the isnads of Andalus including some of the full chains of Yahya b. Yahya, Ibn Abd al-Barr and others.
---- Shaykh Muhammad Nasir al-Ajami
Dr. Akram has complied a journal of his trip to spain in the best series of the Muslim travelogue tradition...What he has produced is a blazing journal, a travel chronicle written straight from the heart, complied with the stinging pen of emotion. it is filled with a rich combination of historical anecdotes, spiritual lessons and citations of verses from the best of Arabic and Urdu poets.
